Bukayo Saka May Continue Substitute’s Role Versus Ghana In England’s Next 2026 World Cup Match

Arsenal’s Nigerian-born winger, Bukayo Saka is likely to again start from the bench when England line out against Ghana on Tuesday for their second match of the ongoing FIFA World Cup in USA, Mexico and Canada, Sports247 reports.

Saka got off The Three Lions’ bench in the 72nd minute of their opening match against Croatia and contributed an assist that helped Marcus Rashford hit home their final goal in a high octane 4-2 win, but he may not start versus Ghana.

A strong hint in that direction was served by England’s coach, Thomas Tuchel, who disclosed that Saka is not yet fit enough to go the hole hog at the global football showpiece, but the German gaffer acknowledged the star’s gallant efforts.

Rather than bow to pressure or allow sentiments sway his choices, the former Paris-Saint Germain of France and Chelsea of England tactician is playing safe, as he hinted that Saka may not be physically ready to start against Ghana.

Tuchel pointed out that Saka did not start against Croatia due to an Achilles issue that affected him during the closing stages of the EPL season, but the gaffer added that the Arsenal star is still struggling and will likely not start on Tuesday.

“Bukayo is ready and will get more and more ready. I think once we go to the last game of this group, he will be ready. He was strong in training, in small spaces. It was just a matter of if the game against Croatia was open and was up and down.

“We are so strong from the bench and we needed his quality against Croatia to bring it over the line,” said Tuchel, as England prepare to face Ghana on Tuesday before playing Panama on June 27th and they are favourites to win both games.
