Nigerian teenage forward Gabriel Jesus David has completed a move from Belgian giants Royal Antwerp to Austrian second-tier club SKN St. Pölten, where he will spend the 2026/27 season on loan as he looks to take his development to another level.
The 19-year-old striker joins Die Wölfe on a temporary deal until the end of the season, with SKN St. Pölten also securing an option to buy the Nigerian at the end of the loan. Royal Antwerp confirmed the agreement on Thursday.
David left Antwerp after making 11 senior-team appearances, but the youngster struggled to establish himself as a regular in the Belgian top flight. His move to Austria is therefore an opportunity to secure more playing time, gain valuable senior experience, and consistently demonstrate his goalscoring ability.
SKN St. Pölten sporting director Christoph Freitag expressed his delight at getting the deal over the line, describing David as a player with an exciting profile.
“He definitely has a very exciting profile and will give us more flexibility in attack with his physicality,” Freitag said.
Head coach Cem Sekerlioglu also revealed that David had already shown his goalscoring qualities during his trial sessions with the Austrian club.
“He has already shown his ability to score goals during the trial training. I hope he can prove that on the pitch in the future,” Sekerlioglu said.
Born on January 2, 2007, David began his European journey with Nigerian academy PSF Academy before moving to Antwerp. He initially joined the Belgian club on loan in February 2025 before making the transfer permanent later that year.
His switch to St. Pölten now takes him from Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League to Austria’s 2. Liga, where the primary objective will be regular football and further development.
For David, the move represents more than a change of country. It is a chance to turn potential into consistent senior performances and establish himself as one of Nigeria’s promising young forwards in Europe.
With a full season ahead of him in Lower Austria and a purchase option giving St. Pölten the chance to make the deal permanent, David now has a major opportunity to make his name in Austrian football.
