Bose Odusanya Clinches 9th Consecutive Title At 55th Molade Okoya-Thomas Cup, Muiz Adegoke Reclaims Men’s Singles Crown

In a spectacular display of table tennis prowess, Bose Odusanya secured her ninth consecutive title in the women’s singles category at the 55th Molade Okoya-Thomas Table Tennis Cup.

The Grand Finale, held on December 20 at Teslim Balogun Stadium, witnessed Odusanya’s dominant performance as she defeated Anu Anjuwon with a resounding 4-0 victory.

Odusanya’s reign as the women’s singles champion dates back to 2015, showcasing her remarkable consistency and skill on the table.

Her latest triumph further solidifies her status as a force to be reckoned with in Nigerian table tennis.

In the men’s singles category, Muiz Adegoke staged a remarkable comeback to reclaim the title. Having secured his maiden title in 2021, Adegoke demonstrated exceptional skill and determination against Emmanuel Augustine, clinching victory with a comprehensive 4-0 win (12-10, 11-7, 13-11, 11-3).

The elated Adegoke expressed his joy at the victory, viewing it as compensation for missing the 2023 World Youth Championship in Slovenia.

The national junior champion shared his aspirations for continued success in future tournaments, stating, “I am so happy that I have something to show for my efforts this year, especially after missing the WYC, and I hope I can continue like this in the next tournament.”

Deji Okoya-Thomas, praising the players for their impressive performances, expressed optimism for an even more glamorous edition of the tournament in the coming year.

He announced plans to enhance the event by establishing a Local Organizing Committee (LOC) to oversee the entire proceedings, aiming to elevate the tournament’s vibrancy and stature.

“We hope to make the tournament bigger next year by setting up a LOC that will be in charge of the whole event and we hope to make it more colourful,” Okoya-Thomas said.

The 55th Molade Okoya-Thomas Cup showcased the best of Nigerian table tennis talent, with Odusanya and Adegoke emerging as the reigning champions in their respective categories.

The event’s success sets the stage for an eagerly anticipated and enhanced edition in the future.
