Boniface Nears Full Recovery as Knee Rehabilitation Enters Advanced Stage

Victor Boniface is making encouraging progress in his recovery from a serious knee injury, with the Nigerian striker now entering the advanced stages of rehabilitation under the supervision of his parent club, Bayer Leverkusen.

Boniface sustained the injury during his loan spell at Werder Bremen in December 2025 and subsequently underwent surgery in January 2026.

The operation ruled him out of competitive action for the remainder of the 2025/26 season, as both player and club opted for a cautious recovery process.

As of late February 2026, the 24-year-old has shown steady improvement.

He has resumed light gym work and weight training, while recent updates indicate he has progressed to outdoor and on-pitch grass sessions — a major milestone in his rehabilitation journey.

However, there is still no confirmed timeline for his return to competitive football.

Boniface’s latest setback adds to a challenging injury history, having previously undergone knee-related procedures earlier in his career.

The recurrence of the issue also contributed to the collapse of a proposed transfer to AC Milan in August 2025 after he failed medical examinations.

Despite the difficulties, the striker has drawn widespread support from fans, who have flooded social media with messages of encouragement and prayers.

His resilience remains a defining trait, having previously bounced back to play a key role in Bayer Leverkusen’s historic unbeaten domestic double-winning campaign.

Club medical officials continue to monitor his progress closely, with the focus firmly on ensuring a full and lasting recovery ahead of the next season.
