Bet9ja Football league latest: Kola Babes beat Phoenix in league opener …as 6 games ended in stalemate

The much anticipated Bet9ja Ekiti Football league began today in seven match venues across the state. And with the impressive crowd present at all games to herald the first-ever football league in the state.

 

The expectations of soccer fans to witness a goals rush was doused as all the teams gave no inches in the highly technical and tactical matches that showed the determination of the teams to battle valiantly for the top prize.

 

In the seven matches of the day, group D produced the only victory of matchday one, as Kola Babes pipped hard fighting Phoenix ASC 1-0 to claim the first three points in the competition.

In group A, matches between, Gbosa FC and Ikere United, as well as, Patemmal FA and Ojorube FC, ended one goal apiece respectively. In the only game of Group B, Ekiti East FC and Ikole United played out a goalless draw.

While in matches in group C, produced two goals, as Ifishin United and United FC battled to a 1-1 draw. And the game between Ijero United and Soccer Academy ended goallessly.

Ajibade FC against EKSU Galacticos was only a scoreless draw, and with Kola Babes shocking fans favourite 1-0 in the Group D matches.

Speaking with the press at the end of matchday one games, Chairman of the Bet9ja football league organizing committee, Olabayo Badmos, expressed satisfaction with the standard of the matches played so far, adding that the results of the games are indications of all the teams in the competition to prove their mettle as potential winners of the competition.

He also praised the match officials for the level of officiating, which he describes as fair and encouraging. He went on to admonish soccer fans to continue with their acts ceaseless supports and sportsmanship.

 

Matches in the competition continue with matchday two slated for Tuesday, August 13, 2019, across different match venues in the state.
