A board member of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Chinedu Onikeku has showered plaudits on the duo of Esther Mbah and Pamela Bawa for their remarkable performances at the 2026 African Beach Volleyball Nations Championship in Alexandria, Egypt.
Sports247 reports that Onikeku, who is a former volleyball international player and Olympian, was excited after the 2024 African Games bronze medallists defeated hosts Egypt 2-0 (21-17, 21-16) in the Round of 16 on Friday to qualify for Saturday’s semi-finals, which they also won.
Onikeku praised Mbah and Bawa for their impressive display against the host nation, as the Nigerian duo started the first set on a strong note and put the Egyptians under pressure to secure a 21-17, then kept the momentum going to defeat the former champions 21-16 and seal the win.
She noted that the players bounced back strongly from a loss to Morocco in their third and final group match, then stressed that getting victory over the hosts confirmed that the Nigerians are a force to reckon with in the annals of African beach volleyball.
“Nigerians are excited with the performance of the girls against the host nation, Egypt. The girls have put a smile on the faces of Nigerians back home. Esther and Pamela gave a good account of themselves.
“They bounced back from their loss against Morocco in their third group-stage match, and this victory is a huge statement from the team. They proved that they are a force to reckon with in beach volleyball,” Onikeku affirmed.
