Bayelsa Queens The Champions Of 2020 Flying Officers Cup

By Akanni Seyi

Bayelsa Queens claimed the coveted trophy meant for the winner of the 2020 Flying Officers Cup after pipping their fellow Nigeria Women Football League NWFL rival Nasarawa Amazon by a lone goal today at Guards Brigade Stadium Abuja.

Having caused the heartbreak for Edo Queens in the first semi-final fixtures when Jumoke Alani agonizingly goofed with Igwe Uzoamaka long loop while Alani directed the ball into her own net, thereby advancing to the final of the Flying Officers Cup.

Bayelsa Queens have been on the front foot with some incisive footies and brilliant exchanges in the opening stages of the crunchy tie, their effort finally paid off in the sixteen minutes as Barakat Olaiya blasted a well-crafted loop beyond
Uchenna Chukwu.

A resilient Christopher Danjuma tutored side responded with positive characters but their efforts refused to restore the needed parity as Igboamalu delivers a well-planted header which Okeke parries and rattles the woodwork.

Nasarawa Amazon surges forward and piled more pressure on their opponents but Queens stood their ground in the dying minutes and finally became the runaway champions.

The epic final which is witnessed by the parents of Arotile Tolulope lived to its billing as Madam Aisha Falode the
Chairperson of the Nigeria Women Football League performed the opening declarations, while the mother of the late Flying Officer Mrs. Arotile performed the official kick

Meanwhile in the third-place match earlier decided, Edo Queens defeated Naija Ratels (4-3) via the penalty shootout as two sides were tied 0-0 at the regulation time. One of the high points in the evening was a minute silence which was observed for the departed soul of the Flying Officer Arotile Tolulope.
