Barau FC have officially booked their spot in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) for the 2025/2026 season after a dominant 2-0 victory over Doma United in the NNL Super 8 playoffs.
The private-owned Kano-based side, under the ownership of the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, rose to the occasion at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, with a performance that highlighted their Premier League ambition and tactical maturity.
Usman Maidubji set the tone early, breaking the deadlock with a composed finish that gave Barau FC the lead and confidence.
The momentum continued in the second half, when Mohammed Shammasu—recent recipient of the NNL Goal of the Month award—sealed the deal with a superb goal that left no doubt about Barau’s qualification credentials.
This latest win capped a strong showing in the NNL Super 8 Northern Conference, where Barau FC finished with five points from three matches—enough to earn promotion alongside fellow Northern side Wikki Tourists.
For a club founded just a few years ago, Barau FC’s rapid rise is a testament to strategic investment, effective leadership, and a solid footballing project.
Their qualification marks the beginning of a new chapter in Kano football, complementing the city’s storied NPFL presence and intensifying the northern football rivalry.
