Abdullahi Bewene is expected to return to Baník Ostrava training on Thursday after completing his latest international duty with the Super Eagles.
The Czech club confirmed that Bewene, along with several other players who represented their national teams, will rejoin the squad on Thursday as Baník prepare for Saturday’s league trip to Bohemians.
The Nigerian defender was part of Eric Chelle’s starting XI for Tuesday’s international friendly against Russia in Nizhny Novgorod, where he played the full 90 minutes.
Bewene also made his mark on the game, providing the assist for Kelechi Iheanacho’s opening goal as Nigeria took an early lead.
Russia later fought back to take a 3-1 advantage, but the Super Eagles showed strong character to recover and secure a 3-3 draw. Peter Edokpolor pulled one back before Akor Adams completed Nigeria’s comeback with a late equaliser.
For Bewene, the Russia game was another important opportunity to gain experience at senior international level. The Baník Ostrava defender earned his third Super Eagles cap in the match after previously featuring in friendly games for Nigeria.
Now back at club level, the 21-year-old is expected to join his teammates on Thursday and take part in Baník’s final two training sessions before their weekend fixture.
Baník coach Roman Skuhravý will be hoping his returning internationals come back in good condition as the team prepares for the Saturday clash, which is scheduled for 6pm.
Bewene’s quick return to training could also put him in contention for the match, although the final decision will be left to the coaching staff.
The defender has continued to grow in importance for both club and country, and his latest international outing will give him further confidence as he returns to the Czech league.
Sports247 gathered that Bewene is expected to have two training sessions with Baník before the Bohemians game, giving him the opportunity to quickly settle back into the club setup.
