Abdullateef Babatunde of Ilorin East and Adekunle Gbotemi of Ilorin South have emerged as the men’s and women’s singles badminton champions, respectively, at KWAFEST 8.0.
Sports247 reports that Babatunde produced a commanding performance in the men’s singles final, defeating Ibrahim Ayobami of Ilorin South 2-0 to claim the gold medal for Ilorin East Local Government.
The Ilorin East representative controlled the contest from the outset, winning the opening game 21-17 before completing the victory with a convincing 21-12 triumph in the second game.
Ayobami battled determinedly throughout the final but was unable to overturn Babatunde’s advantage, settling for the silver medal after an impressive run to the championship decider.
Babatunde’s victory adds another gold medal to Ilorin East’s medal haul as competition continues at the eighth edition of the Kwara State Sports Festival.
In the women’s singles final, Adekunle Gbotemi of Ilorin South completed a memorable championship campaign by defeating her sister, Adekunle Feranmi of Asa Local Government, 2-0, Sports247 gathered.
The highly anticipated all-Adekunle final produced an intriguing family showdown, but Gbotemi proved too strong on the day, winning both games 21-13 and 21-12 to secure the women’s singles gold medal.
Having already defeated Khairat Abdulkadir of Ilorin West in the semi-final, Gbotemi maintained her impressive form to complete her run to the title without dropping a game in the knockout stages.
Feranmi, who had booked her place in the final after defeating Babatunde Laide of Ilorin East, put up a spirited challenge but ultimately had to settle for silver.

For Gbotemi, however, the result completed a special victory, securing the women’s singles title while overcoming her own sister in the championship decider.
