Awoniyi Reveals Secret Of Nottingham’s 3-1 Win Away To Chelsea

Nottingham Forest of England striker, Taiwo Awoniyi has blown the lid off the factors that helped his side pull off a stunning 3-1 victory away to Chelsea in the English Premier League, Sports247 reports.

Against all pre-match forecasts, the relegation threatened side grabbed an away win at Stamford Bridge, and Awoniyi, who scored twice in the encounter, says it was simply because of their determination to pick three points.

With relegation once again starring Forest sternly in the eye, Awoniyi and his teammates, who also include fellow-Super Eagles’ star, Ola Aina, knew they had to do something extra in order to pull themselves out of murky water.

They did just that and Awoniyi went on to commend his team’s coach, Vítor Pereira, the backroom staff and all the players for their victory, during which the gaffer made eight changes for the West London clash.

Pereira gave Awoniyi a starting place, and the former Liverpool forward responded with a brace, while Igor Jesus added a first-half penalty to extend Forest’s control and Matz Sels saved Cole Palmer’s spot-kick to keep a two-goal lead at the break.

Awoniyi struck again early in the second half to seal the win, lifting Forest to within six points of the EPL top ten with an impressive away performance by the side, who the striker believes got the victory because they wanted it most.

“It’s an important win. Credit to the players, to the coach and the staff. We came with the mentality of getting three points, which we need, and I’m so pleased that we managed to win,”

Awoniyi, who has also played in Germany, told Forest TV.
