Awaziem Turns Attention Toward Maritimo Option

FC Porto of Portugal defender, Chodozie Awaziem has turned attention towards the possibility of a deal at a modest club in the same country, Maritimo, after finding his efforts to join Trabzonspor of Turkey fall flat.

Sports247.ng gathered that Awaziem had been keen on joining Super Eagles’ pal, Eddy Ogenyi Onazi and Anthony Nwakaeme in Tranzon, after failing to get a shirt at Porto, but will now turn his attention elsewhere.

The report out of the Iberia Nation reveals further that Awaziem’s hope of joining Trabzonspor came stuck because the Turkish Super Lig club have been handed a transfer ban by global soccer governing body, FIFA.

Trabzonspor were found culpable of failing to pay up fees in some past transfer deals and, after several warnings, FIFA slammed a transfer ban on the club for the January window.

The ban will last for six months, which means there is no possibility of Awaziem making the move this season, hence his decision to start looking in another direction for a deal to take him out of Porto.

Despite excelling at FC Nantes of France while on loan last season, Awaziem is finding the going tough back at Opoorto, and is keen on finding a new lease of life elsewhere, which might now be Maritimo.

The 21-year-old defender will also be keen to hit the ground running at Maritimo, as he did under Claudio Ranieri at Nantes, as he aims to make Nigeria’s squad to the Afirca Cup of Nations, billed for Egypt in June.
