Attack on Journalists: Kwara Utd Fans Club apologies to SWAN

The Kwara United Fans Club has tendered an apology to the leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, (SWAN) over an attack on its members at the end of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), match day 19 encounter between Kwara United and Rivers United on Sunday in Ilorin, sports247.ng can report.

 

The apology was tendered at the end of a two hours meeting held in Ilorin on Tuesday.

The Kwara United Fans Club was led by its former chairman, Alhaji Shehu Abdulkadir, who is now the leader of the elders forum of the body.

Also present at the meeting were representatives of the Kwara FA, Alhaji Bolaji Umar, former chairmen of SWAN in the state, Messrs Bunmi Adedoyin and Jimoh Bashir, Prince Ibrahim of Kwara United and other present executive of the association in the state.

The meeting was centered on how to avoid the reoccurrence of the incident while emphasising the need to embrace peace and work hand in hand.

The leader of the Kwara United Fans Club, Alhaji Shehu Abdulkadir, who first apologised to SWAN on behalf of the body said the incident was caused by lack of communication.

He explained that the body had earlier been detailed that some persons are planning to attack Kwara United coach, Abubakar Bala, after the match, so, they were at the scene to rescue him from the attackers.

Abdulkadir who reminded the meeting the role SWAN played before the Fans Club emerged, said the power of the Sports Writers cannot be over emphasised, adding that it was a miscommunication that led to the matter.

The representative of the Kwara FA, Alhaji Bolaji Umar, appealed to everyone involved to sheath their sword in order for peace to reign for the progress of Sports development in the state.

He assured that the FA would continue to father everyone as far as football is concerned in the state.

Former Chairman of Kwara SWAN, Bunmi Adedoyin, told the Kwara United Fans Club that the newsmen are not partial, so, no need to harass or deny them an opportunity to carry out their duties.

He reminded them that SWAN is a partner in progress in the development of the game in the state.
