For the third year running, Asaba will play host to Nigeria’s premier grassroots sports event, the 9th National Youth Games (NYG), scheduled to hold from August 26 to September 6, 2025, the National Sports Commission (NSC) has confirmed.

The National Youth Games, which serves as a launchpad for athletes aged 15 and under, is designed to unearth and develop the next generation of Nigerian sports stars. Over 5,000 participants, including athletes, coaches, and officials from all 36 states and the FCT, are expected to take part in the 2025 edition.

Speaking on preparations, the NSC assured that logistics, accommodation, security, and medical arrangements are being prioritized to ensure a smooth and impactful Games. The event will feature competitions in athletics, wrestling, swimming, basketball, taekwondo, and several other disciplines.

Delta State will be aiming to maintain its stronghold on the medals table, after emerging overall champions in 2024 with 98 medals, including 41 gold, 27 silver, and 30 bronze.

As anticipation builds, stakeholders are optimistic that Asaba will again deliver a memorable experience, reinforcing its position as a reliable and capable host for youth sports development in Nigeria.
