Organised by the Nigeria Police Force, the multi-sport event will bring together athletes from various police commands nationwide to compete in football, athletics, volleyball, basketball, handball, combat sports, and selected indoor games, in what organisers describe as a blend of competition, discipline, and operational fitness.
Key sporting facilities in Asaba, led by the Stephen Keshi Stadium, have undergone upgrades and routine inspections to meet required standards, while supporting venues and auxiliary facilities are being fine-tuned to ensure seamless competition and athlete welfare.
Speaking ahead of the Games, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, described the biennial event as a vital platform for strengthening esprit de corps within the Force, enhancing physical readiness, and identifying exceptional talents capable of representing the Nigeria Police at national and international sporting events.
According to the IGP, the Police Games go beyond medals and trophies, serving as a tool for stress management, teamwork, and mental resilience among officers entrusted with safeguarding lives and property across the country.
Delta State authorities have assured participants and visitors of comprehensive security arrangements, efficient logistics, and a welcoming environment throughout the duration of the Games.
Officials noted that hosting the event is also expected to stimulate local commerce, boost the hospitality sector, and promote youth engagement in sports.
As contingents prepare to converge on Asaba, expectations are high that the 2026 Biennial Police Games will deliver not only competitive sporting action but also reinforce professionalism, unity, and discipline within the Nigeria Police Force.
