Aruna booked his place at the global showpiece after defeating Egypt’s Mostafa Badr in emphatic fashion, winning their quarterfinal clash 4-0 in straight sets.

The victory confirmed him as Nigeria’s sole qualifier in the Singles event, underlining his continued dominance as the country’s leading figure in international table tennis.

However, Aruna’s quest for continental silverware was halted in the semifinals, where he fell to Mehdi Bouloussa. Despite the setback, his World Cup qualification remains a significant achievement as he prepares to represent Nigeria on the global stage in Macao.

Meanwhile, Egypt’s Omar Assar reinforced his status as one of Africa’s greatest players by capturing his seventh ITTF African Cup title. Assar defeated Algeria’s Mehdi Bouloussa in straight sets in the final of the 2026 ITTF African Cup, also held in Benghazi.

Assar’s latest triumph adds another milestone to his decorated career, while Aruna’s qualification ensures Nigeria will once again have strong representation at the ITTF World Cup.
