Anthony Samuel Blast NFF Over Eric Sekhou Chelle Salary Talks

Anthony Sunday Samuel, CEO of Parrot Sports, has shared his perspective on the ongoing discussions between the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and Super Eagles head coach Éric Sékou Chelle regarding contractual terms and reported salary figures.

Speaking during a media session, Samuel expressed concern about the broader direction of Nigerian football administration, particularly in relation to long-term planning and technical structure within the national team setup.

“Nigeria should not be deceived by just qualifying for the World Cup. Participation alone is not enough — we must aim for real competitiveness,” he stated, emphasizing that qualification without adequate preparation would not meet supporters’ expectations.

Samuel further criticized what he described as structural gaps within the Super Eagles’ technical framework.

“We don’t even have technical departments functioning the way leading football nations like France operate. The technical department is the brain box of any serious football structure,” he said, calling for reforms that prioritize development, analytics, and continuity.

On the appointment of Chelle, Samuel questioned the criteria used in selecting the Malian tactician, arguing that greater consideration should have been given to experienced Nigerian coaches. He referenced past foreign managers such as Lars Lagerbäck and the late Shuaibu Amodu, noting that coaching appointments should align with clear performance expectations and national football philosophy.

“We have capable Nigerians who understand our system and culture. If there are disagreements over direction or structure, it must be resolved professionally,” Samuel added, stressing that national interest should take precedence over individual negotiations.

The comments reflect growing debate among stakeholders over coaching remuneration, administrative efficiency, and the long-term competitiveness of the Super Eagles as they prepare for upcoming international competitions.
