The driver of the SUV in which Nigerian-born former world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Olaseni Oluwafemi Joshua and two of his friends were travelling when it was involved in a fatal accident on Demcember 29th, 2025 in Sagamu, Ogun State, will appear in court again on Thursday.
Sports247 gathered that the driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, who is accused of dangerous driving and not posessing a driver’s liecense among other offences, has pleaded innocent to charges regarding the accident, which he and Joshua survived, but two of the boxer’s friends died.

Although Joshua stated soon after the crash that he does not want to talk about it any longer, while he has since resumed active boxing, after mourning his friends for a long while and sponsored their burials, the case is set to continue next week at a court in Sagamu.
A report by UK’s SunSport revealed in part, “The driver of a car carrying Anthony Joshua was attempting to overtake another vehicle when it crashed, killing two of the boxer’s friends, a court has heard.
“Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, has been accused of causing death by dangerous driving and driving without a valid license (but) he denies the charges.
“Joshua was in the car with his personal trainer Latif Ayodele, and strength coach, Sina Ghami, who were both killed in the collision. The group, who were asleep at the time of the crash, had been travelling to visit the boxer’s father in Ogun, when Kayode lost control of the vehicle, a court heard.
“The driver, who was not a friend of Joshua’s, has been accused of attempting to overtake a moving truck when he smashed into a parked lorry. The former world heavyweight champion, 36, was rushed to hospital following the collision on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Makun.
“Separately, the driver of the stationary lorry that the car crashed into, Abubakar Adamu, 35, has denied the charge against him of obstructing the free flow of traffic.
“Inspector Christopher Ajayi Taiwo of the Ogun State Motor Traffic Division told the court that both vehicles had been removed by the time he arrived at the scene. A logbook, some painkillers and an energy drink were recovered from the site of the crash near the driver’s side, he added.
“Local cops have not yet taken a statement from Joshua, the court also heard. Kayode’s lawyer asked Ajayi why this was the case, to which he replied he ‘didn’t have his number.’ The trial has been adjourned until September 10.”
