Heartland FC has officially launched a new phase of its ambitious rebuilding project with the arrival of top Dutch football consultant, Tom Sanders, in Owerri. Sanders—who brings more than 25 years of technical and development experience across African football—kicked off his assignment on Thursday by observing the Naze Millionaires’ training session, leaving him highly impressed with the squad’s raw potential.
“My first impression is very positive. There is real talent here,” Sanders said after the session. “With patience and daily work, this group can succeed.”
The Dutch expert’s arrival is part of a broader strategic partnership engineered by Heartland’s Technical Manager, Emmanuel Amuneke (MFR), who believes the collaboration is a major step toward restoring the club’s continental reputation.
“Heartland is not a small club. We once reached the 2009 CAF Champions League final,” Amuneke stated. “This collaboration will help take us to the next level.”
Imo FA Chairman, Barr. Ifeanyi Dike, also applauded the move, likening it to some of the most successful Africa–Europe development alliances—including Ajax Cape Town’s link with Ajax Amsterdam and ASEC Mimosas’ longstanding partnership with Arsenal.
The initiative is expected to transform Heartland FC across several key areas:
Player development
International exposure
Technical improvement
Organisational and structural rebuilding
For a club with rich history but recent struggles, the new partnership marks a decisive turn. With Amuneke’s leadership and Sanders’ expertise, Heartland FC appears ready to redefine its identity and reclaim its place among Africa’s elite.
The rebuild has begun—and a new chapter is unfolding for the Naze Millionaires.
