Alozie Strikes in Stoppage Time to Deliver Dramatic Win for Houston Dash

Michelle Alozie, the Super Falcons forward, turned into Houston Dash’s hero on Sunday, coming off the bench to deliver a dramatic stoppage-time winner in a 2–1 away victory over Gotham FC at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey.

The match, held under challenging conditions, was halted midway through the second half due to severe weather before resuming and heading into a tense finish. Gotham took an early lead in the 8th minute when Esther González claimed her league-leading 11th goal of the season, converting a rebound following a Rose Lavelle shot ricochet off the post.

Houston pulled level early in the second half via an unfortunate own goal from Emily Sonnett, whose back pass evaded her goalkeeper and rolled into the net.

The game remained deadlocked until the 93rd minute, when Alozie found space on the right flank, received a through ball from Sarah Puntigam, and calmly slotted home past Gotham goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger to seal the win . Despite suspicions of offside, VAR confirmed the goal stood, delivering a crushing blow to Gotham.

Houston’s resilience earned them a third straight unbeaten result, with seven points gained from their last three outings—highlighting their ability to turn around games from difficult situations . Gotham’s undefeated streak came to an abrupt end, derailing their push toward a playoff spot and amplifying frustration for coach Juan Carlos Amorós and his squad.

For Alozie, who previously delivered a stoppage-time strike during Nigeria’s 2024 WAFCON semi-final, this latest late-game heroics underline her knack for clutch performances on the big stage.
