Competing for the first time in South Carolina colours after completing an off-season transfer from the University of Kentucky, Chukwukelu delivered a confident and composed race, signalling a strong start to his indoor season and his new chapter with the Gamecocks.
His 7.85s mark not only lowered his previous indoor best but also showed early signs that the 2024 Nigerian champion is sharpening up well ahead of a long competitive year.
The race was won by US hurdler Leonard Mustari, who clocked an impressive 7.67s to take the victory.
For Chukwukelu, this performance sets the tone for what could be a breakthrough season as he looks to build on his national dominance, transition smoothly into a new training environment, and position himself strongly for international competitions.
A promising opener — and a statement of intent from the Nigerian star.
