African Beach Volleyball Commission President Musa Nimrod Showers Accolades On Badagry’s Historic Relevance

Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) beach competition’s commission’s President, Engineer Musa Nimrod has showered accolades on the historic values of Badagry, Lagos and equally praised the city’s ancestral landmarks that made it an ideal venue for the recent Zone 3 qualifiers.

Sports247 reports that Nimrod was all smiles during the competition’s final, as he posited that Badagry’s successful hosting of the African Nations Cup Zone 3 Beach Volleyball Qualifiers was a major boost for the sport, as well as for tourism, culture and youth development.

Nimrod added that staging the competition in the historic city gave players, coaches, officials, fans, journalists and visitors from Nigeria and other countries the opportunity to experience Badagry’s rich heritage, while also enjoying the best of top-class beach volleyball action.

“I am very happy, because Badagry is a historic town. This event was never just about volleyball. Visitors also had the opportunity to see historic landmarks such as the Land of the Slave and the Gate of Return. It shows that sports can also promote tourism and preserve our history.

“There are major volleyball stakeholders who regularly come to Badagry to run developmental and educational programmes for children. That is why you saw so many young people at this tournament. They have been actively involved in volleyball.

“We are happy to see the sport growing at the grassroots and we are proud of Badagry. You can see the crowd that came out to watch the matches. The fans have been fantastic, and everyone wanted to see quality competition. Their support has been overwhelming.”
