The second vice-President of Athletic Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Ms. Akuchukwu Aghazu is beaming with sheer delight ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, as she says there is ‘strong determination among the athletes’ to make their country proud.
Sports247 reports that Aghazu praised the athletes for their high level of enthusiasm and zeal heading into the Games, then commended the coaches for lining up adequate training programmes to keep the competitors in shape, even as she expressed hope for great results when the competition begins.
Aghazu, who expressed total satisfaction with the level of preparations for the Games, described Team Nigeria’s ongoing build-up at Aberdeen Sports Village (ASV) as one of the best the country has witnessed in recent years and praised National Sports Commission (NSC) for making it possible.
She further eulogised the NSC’s commitment to ensuring Nigeria’s contingent is adequately prepared, by providing the necessary support and creating an environment that helps them focus fully on training without distractions, thereby boosting the confidence levels of athletes, coaches and officials.
“They are training very hard every day and are highly motivated to perform. There is a strong determination among the athletes to make Nigeria proud by delivering outstanding performances and winning medals at the Commonwealth Games.
“The coaches and athletes are in incredibly high spirits; and they keep saying they have never had it this good. The environment is excellent, morale is high, and everyone is focused on the task ahead,” the philatropic AFN top shot disclosed enthusiastically.
