President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Chief Tonobok Okowa has showered a rain of accolades on National Sports Commission (NSC) top shots for arranging a camp in Aberdeen, Scotland ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
Sports247 reports that, with the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland coming up from July 23rd to August 2nd, Okowa reckoned that taking Team Nigeria’s contingent to Aberdeen for a pre-competition camp well ahead of the outing is a great idea.
Okowa, who equally commended the early commencement of preparations for Glasgow 2026, also disclosed that the AFN is working round the clock to ensure that home-based athletes get enough support that will help them excel.
The AFN boss added while speaking on the sidelines of the ongoing national track and field trials at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos – which serve as qualifiers for Glasgow 2026 – that Nigeria’s home-based athletes have done very well in recent months.
He commended all home-based competitors and elite athletes across various events for putting up outstanding performances this season, then disclosed that the AFN is working in collaboration with the NSC to ensure a successful outing in Glasgow.
“I really want to commend the NSC because the athletes will camp in Aberdeen for three weeks and then head to Glasgow two days before the games begin,” said Okowa, who also promised that it will be the most successful outing for Nigeria.
