AFCON24: Sam Sodje Expresses Concerns Over Super Eagles’ Readiness For AFCON

Former Super Eagles international, Sam Sodje, voices concerns about Nigeria’s readiness for the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON), stating that the team is not adequately prepared for the challenging task of winning the tournament.

Sodje acknowledges that, while it is essential to support the Super Eagles as they participate in the AFCON, he emphasizes the need for honesty in assessing the team’s readiness.

He suggests that any success in the tournament would be more a result of luck than effective preparation.

“At this point, they’ve already gotten to the Nations Cup now and we have to support them. But to be honest, we cannot lie about the fact that we’re not ready. If we go there and do well, it’s just luck.”

The former footballer points out that Nigeria has talented players, but he expresses reservations about the backroom staff and technical aspects of the team’s preparation, describing them as not “up to scratch.”

“But from preparation and the way things are being done, It’s just not right. We have the players, but the backroom style and the technical side are just not up to scratch. And that’s why we’re going to struggle.”

Sodje’s comments suggest a lack of confidence in the coaching and support staff’s ability to guide the team to success.

While Sodje’s remarks indicate scepticism about the Super Eagles chances at the AFCON, they also underscore the importance of comprehensive and effective preparation for success in international football competitions.
