AFCON24: Christian Obodo Urges Super Eagles To Maximize Team Strength Despite Injuries

Former Super Eagles midfielder, Christian Obodo, has advised the national team’s handlers to maximize the strengths of the squad despite the challenges posed by injuries to key players.

Obodo’s comments come in the wake of the news that Bayer Leverkusen striker, Victor Boniface, will miss the AFCON due to injury.

Obodo emphasizes the need for other players in the team to step up and raise their game to compensate for the absence of injured players.

Expressing his disappointment about Boniface’s injury, Obodo mentions that the young striker has been receiving praise and recognition for his performances in Europe.

“I would have loved to see him play for this AFCON. Because Boniface has just been doing very great. Everybody in Europe in the world talking about him. Even some of my friends were just talking about him and Osimhen yesterday.”

He acknowledges the discussions about Nigerian strikers, including Boniface and Osimhen, among football enthusiasts in Europe.

However, with the setback of Boniface’s injury, Obodo urges the remaining players in the squad, especially in the attack, to fill the void.

Obodo mentions the positive discussions about Nigerian strikers, especially in the Bundesliga, and highlights Lookman as another key player who has been impressing in the attack.

While acknowledging the quality of defenders in the team, he stresses the importance of players stepping up in difficult situations.

“Of course, we know Osimhen is one of the greatest strikers in the world right now. I know he’s going to do his part. We have strikers.

Although where we are, I think we are having those kinds of difficult issues in the position, and I just know that have some good defenders who can do some dirty and quality job.”

Obodo expresses confidence in the overall strength of the Super Eagles, stating, “I think we are good.” His comments reflect the sentiment that despite the challenges, the national team has the talent and depth to navigate through the competition and make a strong impact at the AFCON.
