Super Eagles’ captain, Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi has admitted that winning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations would be an amazing achievement for the team, but stressed that their focus for now is only on the next match.
Sports247 reports that the Besiktas of Turkey midfielder also disclosed that he dreams about becoming a legend of Nigerian football, but conceded that reaching such status can only come after achieving great results.

Ndidi recounted the feats of Rashidi Yekini, Daniel Amokachi, Nwankwo Kanu, Austin Okocha, Sunday Oliseh, and others, all of who he disclosed inspire him to seek trophies for Nigeria.
The former Nath Boys of Lagos, RKC Genk of Belgium and Leicester City of England battler, noted, “They are great legends, and we respect them. The only way we can follow them is just to deliver good results.
“They saw it all. They were there before us, and that’s why they expect more from us. We have no problem with that, and we’ll keep on trying our best every day.
“We’ll keep trying to improve because the only answer we can give is to deliver good results. That’s why we want to get something out of this tournament.”
However, while stressing the importance of leaving Morocco with the AFCON trophy, Ndidi was quick to affirm that he and his colleagues must focus on each match at a time, so that they do not get distracted.
He added, “It would be something else to win this tournament. Yes, winning this AFCON will be really amazing.
“We want to start dreaming of it, but the reality for now is the next game. We don’t want to dream about the cup or the final and forget the next game.”
The skipper, who started as a central defender before he was converted to a defensive midfielder during his days in Belgium, further averred that the players will not even talk about this year’s final until they eventually get there.
Ndidi submitted philosophically, “This next game will take us to where we want to be. So, for now, our main focus is the next game on Monday.
“After the next game, there will be more games before we get to where we want to be. So, we shouldn’t dream about the cup now and forget the game that we have at hand.”
