Uzoho, who is making a return to the national team after a period away, was the first player to arrive at the Super Eagles’ camp following his surprise inclusion in the final 28-man squad for the AFCON tournament.
His early arrival was seen as a clear statement of intent as preparations begin in earnest.
Reflecting on his absence from the team, the 26-year-old admitted that what he missed most was not just competitive football but the camaraderie within the squad.
“I missed quite a lot, but I think I missed the boys, to be honest. I missed the vibe in the camp,” Uzoho said.
“We’ve been together for so long, and being around the boys, facing challenges together, is something special. That’s what I missed the most.”
Uzoho revealed that despite being away from the team, he maintained contact with some of his teammates and was overwhelmed with joy when he received the call-up.
“I was filled with joy — a joy I can’t really express. It was relieving to know that I’m coming back to be with the boys again and to represent Nigeria, which is the most important thing,” he added.
On the growing competition among the goalkeepers, Uzoho dismissed any notion of rivalry turning personal, stressing that mutual respect and brotherhood remain central within the group.
“Anybody that is called into the national team is ready. The technical crew and the scouts know what they are doing. If you’re invited, it means you’re ready to represent the country,” he said.
Speaking specifically about his relationship with Stanley Nwabali, currently the first-choice goalkeeper, and Amas Obasogie, Uzoho described both as close allies rather than rivals.
“Stanley is my brother. When he came in, we were all together and helped each other. Maybe people outside don’t see it, but personally, we’re very close,” Uzoho explained.
“I was with Amas twice in the national team before I stopped coming. He’s a good lad, and I’m close to him too. I’m close to everybody.”
As the Super Eagles intensify preparations for AFCON 2025, the battle for the goalkeeping spot promises to be one of the most closely watched storylines, with Uzoho making it clear that he is ready whenever called upon.
“When the time comes and the country needs me, I will be ready,” he concluded.
