Speaking ahead of Monday’s knockout fixture in Fès, Gusau said the team is fully aware of the task before them and understands that there are no easy games at this stage of the competition. He stressed that Mozambique’s qualification for the knockout round is proof of their quality and determination.

The NFF president noted that while Nigeria’s perfect group-stage performance has boosted confidence, it must not lead to complacency. According to him, knockout football requires full concentration, discipline and respect for opponents, regardless of reputation.

Gusau expressed confidence in the technical crew and players, adding that the Super Eagles have prepared well and shown maturity in their approach so far. He revealed that discussions with the team have centered on staying focused, managing games better and maintaining intensity from start to finish.

He also praised the players’ attitude in camp, saying their commitment in training and matches reflects a strong desire to succeed. Gusau believes that mindset will be crucial as Nigeria looks to progress deeper into the tournament.

Nigeria face Mozambique on Monday, 5 January, at the Stade de Fès, with Gusau backing the Super Eagles to deliver a disciplined performance and secure qualification for the quarterfinals of AFCON 2025.
