Reacting after Nigeria’s dominant 4–0 victory that sealed a place in the last eight, Bassey insisted the match was not as straightforward as it appeared.
He said the Super Eagles had to remain disciplined, focused, and tactically alert throughout the encounter to secure the result.
The Fulham defender explained that the team spent time studying Mozambique and executing the instructions given by the technical crew, which helped them control the game and limit their opponents’ chances. According to him, staying compact and organised was key to keeping a clean sheet.
Looking ahead to the quarterfinal showdown against the Algeria national football team, Bassey stressed that Nigeria must raise their level even further.
He described Algeria as a strong and experienced side with quality players capable of punishing mistakes.
Bassey added that the Super Eagles are fully aware of the task ahead and will approach the game with the right mentality, noting that knockout matches leave no room for errors.
Nigeria will face Algeria in the AFCON 2025 quarterfinals determined to maintain their momentum and push closer to the title.
