ADUSTECH Rewards Athletes After Historic Medal Haul at University Games

Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil (ADUSTECH), on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, celebrated a landmark moment in its sporting history by honouring athletes who delivered the institution’s first-ever medals at the Nigerian University Games (NUGA) and the JUST Games.

The colourful award ceremony, held on campus, marked a major milestone in the university’s 25-year history and was attended by top officials, including the Pro-Chancellor, Retired Justice Abdu Aboki, Vice-Chancellor Professor Musa Tukur Yakasai, and other principal officers.

ADUSTECH’s breakthrough came through standout performances in judo and draughts. Judo athletes Aminu Hassan and Khalid Khalil, who won gold and silver medals respectively, were rewarded with ₦200,000 and ₦150,000. Ya’u Muhammad, a gold medalist in draughts at the University Staff Games, received ₦50,000, while other medalists and coaches were also presented with cash rewards. The Chairman of the Sports Committee, the Director of Sports, and their deputies each received ₦100,000 in recognition of their roles in the achievement.

Speaking at the event, the Pro-Chancellor praised the athletes for elevating the university’s profile through sports, while the Vice-Chancellor commended the collective effort of the principal officers and the Sports Directorate in supporting athletic development.

In a further show of confidence, Professor Yakasai announced a second two-year tenure for the Director of Sports and his deputies, citing the historic success as evidence of effective leadership.

Chairman of the Sports Committee, Professor Muhammad Abdulkadir Dambazau, credited the Vice-Chancellor’s vision for transforming ADUSTECH into an emerging sports hub, pointing to recent upgrades and the construction of new sports facilities on campus.

Director of Sports, Abubakar Abdussalam Garba, in his remarks, applauded the athletes for their discipline and commitment, pledging continued support to sustain the momentum.

The ceremony underscored ADUSTECH’s growing investment in sports development and signalled a new era for the university’s athletics programme, with officials expressing optimism that the recent success will be the foundation for even greater achievements in future competitions.
