Adesoji: 2026 WTT Contender Lagos Promises Unforgettable Experience – 22 Nations Set to Battle for $100k Prize Money 

Top table tennis nations will storm Lagos this month as the 2026 WTT Contender Lagos prepares to deliver another thrilling spectacle.

Powerhouses like Japan, Korea Republic, Germany and France headline the elite field confirmed for the tournament scheduled for May 19 to 24 at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall inside Teslim Balogun Stadium.

The Lagos tournament remains one of the standout events on the global WTT calendar, attracting players and fans with its vibrant atmosphere, colourful culture and passionate support.

A total of 22 countries will compete for the $100,000 prize purse, with athletes from Denmark, United States, India, Portugal, Romania, Cameroon, Benin Republic, Belgium, Canada, Togo, Netherlands, Ghana, Wales, Egypt, Italy, Chile, Slovenia and hosts Nigeria also expected to feature prominently.

Speaking ahead of the competition, Local Organising Committee chairman Adesoji Tayo said Lagos is fully prepared to stage another memorable edition of the tournament.

“We are excited to host this prestigious event, one that not only highlights elite table tennis in Africa and beyond but also underscores Nigeria’s growing influence on the global sporting stage,” Tayo said.

“Coming on the heels of the centenary anniversary of table tennis in London, Lagos is proud to welcome athletes eager to compete with passion and precision.”

Tayo added that the city’s unique energy and hospitality continue to make the tournament one of the most attractive stops on the WTT circuit.

“Nigeria’s commercial hub is prepared to deliver an unforgettable experience filled with energy, culture and top-tier table tennis,” he stated.

“As one of the most popular tournaments on the WTT calendar, the Contender Lagos continues to raise the bar in organisation and hospitality, offering athletes and fans a truly unique atmosphere.”

This year’s edition will also witness the return of former champions alongside rising stars aiming to earn valuable ITTF World Ranking points.

The competition will feature men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, as well as mixed doubles events across five days of intense action.

Widely regarded as a bridge between emerging talents and elite-level competition, the WTT Contender Series continues to provide players with vital opportunities to rise through the global rankings while showcasing the sport to new audiences across the world.
