Former Nigeria international, Mutiu Adepoju, has called on the Super Eagles to be ruthless in front of goal when they face Benin Republic in their decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.
Adepoju, who represented Nigeria at multiple World Cup tournaments, stressed that the players must take their chances if they hope to keep their qualification hopes alive.

Speaking in an interview, Adepoju warned that this is not the time to waste opportunities or show complacency, as every missed chance could prove costly. “The team has to be more clinical. At this stage, we can’t afford to be careless with finishing. One goal can change everything — both in our game and across the group,” he said.
The former Real Sociedad midfielder further urged the team to make better use of the flanks, highlighting Nigeria’s natural strength on the wings with players like Moses Simon, Ademola Lookman, and Samuel Chukwueze capable of stretching any defense.
“Playing through the wings will open up spaces and allow more goal-scoring opportunities. We’ve always been strong in wide areas — that’s our identity, and we must use it to our advantage,” he added.
Adepoju expressed confidence that the Super Eagles can still qualify if they maintain focus and play with purpose, noting that the current squad has the quality to turn things around despite the tight situation in Group C.
“We’ve been here before as a nation. Nigerians believe in this team, and it’s time for the players to deliver. It’s the final push — nothing less than a win will do,” he concluded.
The Super Eagles face Benin Republic in a must-win clash that could define their World Cup dreams, with both nations still in contention for a qualification spot.
