Access Bank Lagos City Marathon: The promise of a plot of land, 1 million naira inspired me to win – First female wheelchair athlete

Winner of the 10km race at the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon in the women special event Okoro Nkirunka Juliet has stated that she is over the moon over her victory at the 4th edition of the event despite the huge competition in her category.

 

Speaking with Sports247.ng after the event she stated that she never thought that she would win because her preparation for the event was not as long as she usually puts in for such competition; “I am very happy, I’m overjoyed because I never expected to win despite the competition. The definitely trained better than I did. I have participated in the marathon three times and this will be my first time of winning.

 

In the last edition I came fourth and the first one I was third. I didn’t have the best of preparation but the little time I had I prepared really hard and I was surprised when I came in as the first in the women’s category and I cried when my name was announced.

 

Despite attributing her win to luck, Juliet also revealed that the prize money and the hope of winning the plot of land set aside by one of the sponsor of the race RevolutionPlus Property was one of the reason she gave her all and she is excited with the win. “I did not even expect the plot of land. My moral rose at the thought of winning the race and winning a plot of land in Lagos.

I was like me, because of race I won one million naira and a plot of land. I still can’t believe it I’m filled with testimony. I’m just saying thank you because I never expected it at all.” She said.
