Abuja To Receive Women’s World Cup On April 11

Abuja will come alive on April 11, when female soccer personalities and others gather in the Nigerian capital to receive the FIFA Women’s World Cup trophy, sports247.ng gathered.

The trophy is expected in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as part of its ongoing tour of all qualified countries for this year’s edition of of the global female soccer spectacle in France.

Before landing in Abuja, the trophy will touch down in Jamaica, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, USA, Republic of Korea, Japan, China, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, South Africa and Cameroon.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup Trophy Tour commenced in Paris, France, with female legends, Kristine Lilly and Laura Georges sending it off.

Also present in Paris were president of Canada Soccer Association (CSA), Steve Reed and general-secretary, Peter Montopoli, who did a handover of hosting rights to France, represented by French Football Federation (FFF) and France 2019 LOC vice-president, Brigitte Henriques.

The trophy will first travel to Jamaica before reaching all 24 participating nations across six continents, in what FFIA believe will give fans the rare opportunity of seeing the coveted diadem up close.

The trophy will be in Abuja on April 11 from Yaoundé, Cameroon and will then move to Norway, Germany, Italy, England, Scotland, Holland, Spain, and Canada before ending at the World Cup venue, France in May.

Nigeria’s female national team, Super Falcons have already qualified for the eighth edition of the competition, which is scheduled to commence on the 7th of June.

The Falcons, one of seven teams that have qualified for every edition of the Female Mundial, are in Group A alongside host nation France, 1995 winners Norway, and fast-rising giant killers, Korea Republic.
