The initiative, led by UEFA B licensed coach Izuchukwu Emeh and executed in partnership with the Abia State Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, reflects the Alex Otti administration’s broader agenda of youth empowerment, sports development and positioning sports as a viable economic sector.

As part of the tour, the scouting delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Sir Nwaobilor Ananaba, who reiterated the state government’s commitment to sustaining international scouting programmes.

Ananaba assured stakeholders of continued support through improved infrastructure, security and institutional backing, describing sports diplomacy as a key tool for youth engagement and global visibility.

Player trials were organised by Bohold Soccer Scout International Ltd in collaboration with Sweden-based Enköpings SK and Agent 1914.

The exercise targeted male players in the U20 category, drawing participation from 34 teams across two centres. Twenty-two teams were assessed at the Sam Ginger Amanaha Mini Stadium in Isiala Ngwa North, while 12 teams showcased their talents at the People’s Club Playing Ground in Aba.

The scouting tour recorded immediate and tangible outcomes, with 15 players officially shortlisted for international progression.

Notably, three of the selected talents are expected to make the move to Europe by January 2026, representing a rare and structured pathway from grassroots football in Nigeria to the professional European system.

With the backing of Enköpings SK Club Director, Pelle Johansson, and local coordinators Bohold FC, the 2025 Global Football Scouting Tour highlights Abia State’s transition from mere talent identification to direct international placement.

The programme reinforces the state’s growing ambition to emerge as a major football talent hub in West Africa, capable of producing globally competitive players through transparent and organised pathways.
