Represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Sir Nwaobilor Ananaba, Abia joined other Niger Delta states in constituting committees that will spearhead all preparatory activities ahead of the regional sporting fiesta.

The Abia delegation—comprising Commissioner Ananaba as Chairman, Onyebuchi Chukwu as Secretary, Director of Sports George Obioma, and Kingsley Chijioke Okwum—was officially briefed on its mandate and expectations.

Under the directives of the Project Consultant, the committee is responsible for managing the entire athlete-preparation pipeline.

This includes organising grassroots preliminary trials, supervising final athlete selection, and ensuring accurate online registration via the DRM portal.

The committee will also coordinate publicity efforts, enforce compliance with technical guidelines, and oversee the camping and training of Abia’s contingent.

Logistics such as transportation to and from the Games, as well as the prudent management of state funds in line with consultant instructions, were also assigned as core responsibilities.

In addition to approved athletes and coaches, states were informed they may travel with twelve extra support officials, such as medical staff and administrative aides, to ensure a smooth operational process.

The meeting wrapped up with representatives from all Niger Delta states reaffirming their collective commitment to delivering a professionally run and unified 2nd Niger Delta Games.
