The Organizing Committee for the 2023 Betsy Obaseki Women’s Football Tournament was
inaugurated by Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, the wife of the Edo State Governor.

The ceremony took place at the Government House in Benin City on Thursday. Mrs. Obaseki encouraged the committee members to build upon the successes achieved in previous editions of the tournament.
Heading the nine-member committee is Yusuf Alli, with Mrs. Sabina Chikere, the Permanent Secretary of the Edo State Sports Commission, serving as the secretary. The other committee members include Maria Edekor, Kingsley Ehigiamusor, Crusoe Osagie, Dr.
Andrew Obi, Dr. Peter Okonofua, Dr. Kweku Tandoh, and Emmanuel Igbinosa.
Mrs. Betsy Obasekii expressed her appreciation for the committee’s unwavering support and contributions in past editions of the tournament. She stated, “I am truly grateful for your dedication and hard work, which were evident in the highly acclaimed first edition, even commended by FIFA.
As a result, I have decided that we will continue to seek your collaboration every year, as many of you are willing, ready, and available to work with us in empowering our girls, not only in Edo State but throughout the country.”
On behalf of the committee, Dr. Tandoh extended gratitude to the state government for
granting them the opportunity to serve.
He remarked, “The past two years have been remarkable, with the Deputy Governor and the team demonstrating that women can create pathways in football. We assure you that this year, we will give our utmost best. With your continued support, we believe and hope that this year will be no exception, and we will execute our responsibilities diligently to make you proud.”
