Teenage sensation Efemini Tekevwe hatrick gave Mighty Wonderers an emphatic victory over Delta Milan in the Group B encounter of the Doris Nwadiolu Memorial Cup on friday at the Agbor Township Stadium.
The traveling Abraka boys endured the rough trip from Abraka to Agbor but were undaunted as barely 4 minutes into the game when Destiny fired home the curtain raiser. The first half ended 1-0 but in the second half mighty wonderers haven recovered from the trip took the game by storm and Tekvwe treble in the 56, 58 and 67 minutes lifted the Agbor stadium as fans rose to salute the 17 year old heroics. Uche Scored the 5th goal in the 89th minute to put the icing on the cake as Mighty Wonderers rise to the top of the group with two games to spare.
The result effectively knocked out Delta Milan from the tournament haven secured only 3 points from their first victory against winners as they lost 2-0 subsequently to Ultimate stars.
Mighty Wonderers will plan a double header on Saturday against Winners at 11am before returning to face Ultimate Stars later at 4pm.
“We are happy for the victory, its put us in good position for booking the semi finals ticket, despite the travels my boys settled quickly and we got the goals that gave us the victory” Coach Samuel said after the match.
In the other day’s Fixture KG Sports Academy forced Sharp Strikers to a 1-1 Draw. The result put the defending champions one foot into the Semi finals while Sharp Strikers are out with only 2 points from 3 games.
Winners FC forced Ultimate star to a 0-0 draw which puts the Coach Ojewa Winners side in danger of being knocked out in the group stage. Winners lost their opening match 2-0 to Delta Milan and with only 1 point need a win in their last match against Mighty Wonderers for any hope of Qualification. Meanwhile, the draw put Ultimate one foot into the semi finals as they now have 4 points from two matches. Ultimate will take on Mighty Wonderers on Saturday to determine the group leaders.
In the final game of the day, Green Rangers came from behind to defeat Soccer Stars 2-1. The defeat technically knocked out Soccer stars as they are rooted with 3 points haven played all three group games. Green Rangers will face off with KG Sports On Saturday to determine the group winner.
