NWPL 2020/21: Pelican Stars FC, Royal Queens makes return as NWPL releases fixtures

LThe Nigeria Women Premier League commencement date and draws has been revealed with the league set to kick off on 18th of March- 24th of June 2020 as two top teams from each group will qualify automatically for the Super 4 Championship, while the last teams from the two groups will get relegated to the NWFL-Pro League.

“The timing for the 2020 season makes it thirty years of women league football in Nigeria which is therefore only important that we take bold and intentional steps towards achieving the NWFL we all can be proud of.” Aisha Falode said in her speech during the congress and NWPL draw.

” The thirty year anniversary of the women league football in Nigeria and Africa is a major milestone that is worthy of celebration, and we have highlighted various programs and projects towards making this the turning point in women league football in Nigeria and Africa.”

Pelican Stars FC and Royal Queens FC are the newly promoted side. Pelican Stars will be marking a return to the Nigeria Women Premier League after they got relegated in 2018, while Royal Queens will be playing in the Premier League for the first time ever.
