‘My Dream Is to Coach the National Team!’ — BAVIS Sets Sights on Top-Level Football After CAF D Licence Course

Grassroots football coach Alabi Boluwaji Victor, popularly known as BAVIS, has declared his ambition to coach at the highest level of football, including the Nigerian national team, while urging fellow grassroots coaches to embrace professional certification as a pathway to improving player development.

BAVIS made this known during an exclusive interview with Sports247 at the ongoing CAF D Licence Coaching Course held at Agro Terra Resort, Joga-Orile, in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The programme, featuring 40 participating coaches, provides an opportunity for football tacticians to strengthen their technical knowledge and gain a deeper understanding of modern coaching principles.

Speaking about his decision to enrol, BAVIS explained that his desire to improve his football knowledge had existed long before the coaching programme was brought to Ogun State.

“I have always wanted to improve my football knowledge, so when the opportunity was brought to Ogun State, it increased my motivation, and I believe I will learn new things,” he told Sports247.

For the ambitious coach, having the programme within Ogun State has created an opportunity to pursue professional development while building on his existing coaching experience.

Reflecting on lessons gained from the course, BAVIS emphasised the constantly evolving nature of football and the importance of adapting coaching methods to changing demands.

“Football is broad, and the way around it keeps changing from time to time, so I would say that I have learnt dynamism around the basics and leadership progression,” he explained.

His comments underline the importance of combining fundamental coaching knowledge with leadership skills to create an environment where young players can develop effectively.

‘Knowledge Is Power’ — BAVIS Urges Coaches

Looking ahead, BAVIS revealed that his ultimate ambition extends beyond grassroots football.

“My aim is to coach at the top level, and the national team is not exempted,” he declared.

He also encouraged coaches who have yet to obtain recognised qualifications to invest in their professional development.

“I would like all grassroots football coaches who are yet to obtain one certification or the other to do so because knowledge is power. What you don’t know, you can’t teach.”

According to BAVIS, improved coaching education will help grassroots coaches provide young footballers with the guidance and environment necessary to develop their skills.

For BAVIS, the CAF D Licence represents more than another qualification. It is a step towards his ambition of coaching at the highest level while contributing to the development of Nigeria’s next generation of football talents.
