Speaking on Inside Naija on Sports247, Betiku shared his views on the club’s preparations, player recruitment and the administrative demands involved in building a team capable of competing at a higher level.
The discussion highlighted the difficulties clubs face when identifying and negotiating with players, particularly when suitable options are already attached to other teams.
Betiku’s experience in Nigerian football administration, including his previous association with Sunshine Stars, formed part of the conversation about the realities of recruiting players and assembling a squad that meets a club’s needs.
Finding the right players involves more than identifying talent, as clubs must also navigate negotiations and consider the availability of their preferred targets.
The conversation also raised questions about planning and the organisation of sporting activities, highlighting the importance of proper preparation in football administration.
For Smart City, building a competitive team remains an important part of its wider ambition to secure promotion to the NPFL. The club competes in the Nigeria National League (NNL), where teams face the challenge of turning their preparations into consistent performances.
Beyond recruitment, the discussion touched on the administrative and financial support required to sustain a football project. These factors remain important as clubs seek to develop their squads and compete for promotion.
Betiku’s comments offered insight into the work that takes place behind the scenes as Smart City continues its preparations for the 2026/27 NNL season.
With promotion to the NPFL as the club’s stated objective, effective recruitment, careful planning and the right support structure will be important to its progress during the campaign.
