Sports247 reports that the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side announced the agreement, securing the services of the 22-year-old Nigerian international as she continues her development in the United States.

Abiodun has established herself as an important member of Washington Spirit’s midfield, earning recognition for her energy, defensive contributions, work rate and composure in possession. Her contract extension reflects the club’s decision to retain a player who has become increasingly influential within the squad.

Reacting to the announcement, the Super Falcons midfielder expressed her happiness at continuing her career in Washington, describing the club as a place where she has developed both professionally and personally.

“The Spirit has become my home over the past year and I’m thrilled to renew my commitment to DC,” Abiodun said.

“I have seen a lot of growth in my game with this club and I look forward to continuing to contribute to its success.”

The Nigerian international’s comments underline her satisfaction with the progress she has made since joining the American side.

Abiodun’s performances have demonstrated her ability to combine defensive discipline with technical quality in midfield. Her willingness to compete for possession, support teammates and contribute to the team’s overall structure has made her a valuable option for Washington Spirit.

At 22, the midfielder remains in an important phase of her career, with the new agreement providing an opportunity to continue developing in one of women’s football’s competitive professional leagues. The extension also offers continuity as she works towards strengthening her influence within the squad.

Abiodun’s continued involvement in the NWSL represents an encouraging development for Nigerian women’s football. Regular exposure to high-level club competition can provide valuable experience as she seeks to maintain her place in the Super Falcons setup.

Her progress will be closely followed by Nigerian supporters, particularly as the national team continues preparations for future international assignments.

With her immediate future secured through 2028 and a possible extension to 2029, Deborah Abiodun will now focus on building upon her performances and helping Washington Spirit pursue further success.
