‘Nigeria Has Capacity For Organisation Of High-profile Events,’ Shehu Dikko Assures Towards CAF Awards, General Assembly

The chairman of Nigeria’s National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko has given a reassurance that the country has what it takes to host high-profile international events.

Sports247 reports that Dikko served the fresh verdict in furtherance of Nigeria’s preparation to host this year’s General Assembly and annual awards of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The NSC’s boss also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s passion to ensure a successful hosting of the 48th Ordinary General Assembly in Abuja and 2026 CAF Awards in Lagos, saying Nigeria is ready to deliver memorable experiences for all delegates at both events.

He gave the assurance during a courtesy visit paid to his office by a CAF inspection team, which is assessing facilities in Abuja ahead of the Congress, following an earlier tour of facilities in Lagos as well as interactions with relevant stakeholders.

Dikko noted that both forthcoming events are opportunities for Nigeria to exhibit its organisational capacity, hence President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approval of the ventures after being briefed by CAF’s leadership at the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya five months ago.

“His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR and the government of our country are very, very committed to hosting bespoke events that will underscore the capacity of our people in organisation and management of high-profile events.

“We will work together as one team to make sure this is delivered to the best that it could be,” Dikko said, while describing Lagos as Nigeria’s commercial hub, with a history of previously hosting major international sports and cultural events.

Sports247 reports further that Dikko also enthused that collaborations among the Federal Government, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), NSC, authorities in Lagos State, FCT’s administration and CAF will ensure successful events that would strengthen Nigeria’s commitment to development of the game in Africa.
