Sports247 gathered that Coach Akeem Busari’s team’s 2-1 loss to Poland in their first game of the ongoing championship in Morocco has not diminished their credentials, especially in comparison with that of Puerto Rico.

While the Flamingos have qualified for all nine editions of this championship and even have a bronze medal to show from one of their recent campaigns, Puerto Rico are in it for the very first time.

Furthermore, a heavy defeat that Puerto Rico suffered at the feet of defending champions, Korea DPR, left an ominous halo hanging over their potential to progress from the group, thereby giving Busari’s team an extra factor for victory.

In the same vein, technology is also on Nigeria’s side, as a preview of the game generated via A.I. noted that Puerto Rico’s 6-0 loss to Korea is a huge deficit that the debutants might not be able to shake off, especially against the wounded Flamingos.

A.I.’s preview stated in part, “The Nigeria U-17 women’s national football team, the Flamingos, will face Puerto Rico on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, in their second Group B match at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco. Kick-off Time: 7pm WAT.

“Venue: Pitch 4, Mohammed VI Football Complex, Salé/Rabat. The Stakes – this is a must-win fixture for both teams, as they currently sit bottom of Group B. Nigeria are looking to rebound after a 2-1 loss to Poland in their opening match, where substitute Oluebube Umejiaku scored the Flamingos’ lone goal.

“Puerto Rico, making their tournament debut, are also aiming to reset after a heavy 6-0 defeat by the defending champions, Korea DPR. With a daunting final group game against Korea looming next for Nigeria, securing all three points is vital for the Flamingos to keep their Round of 16 qualification hopes alive.”
