A case of ‘visitor to your own country’ is about to happen in the annals of Nigerian sports, as a citizen of the nation, Dr Christian Emeruwa is leading an inspection team from Confederation of African Football (CAF) to his fatherland.
Sports247 gathered that the well travelled and vastly experienced Nigerian administrator will be at the head of CAF’s 15-man team that will land in Lagos on Friday for a final inspection of facilities the country is lining up to host the Confederation’s 48th Ordinary General Assembly and 2026 Awards.
The continental body’s general assembly is scheduled to hold at the International Conference Centre in Abuja on Saturday, November 21st, while the 2026 CAF Awards is billed for the former National Theatre (now Wole Soyinka Centre For Culture & Creative Arts) in Iganmu, Lagos on Monday, December 7th.
Emeruwa, who is CAF’s current head of safety and security, will arrive with the delegation on a mission to further assess Nigeria’s plans so far and hold various levels of engagements with officials of Wole Soyinka Centre, Eko Hotel, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, and Lagos State Government.
The team will then move to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja to engage with top brass of Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Transcorp Hilton Hotel and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
Emeruwa and his team of inspectors from CAF will also pay courtesy visits to National Sports Commission (NSC) chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko and the director-general, Honourable Bukola Olopade.
Sports247 gathered further that the CAF delegation will be guided around the choice venues in Lagos and Abuja by a six-man team from Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), led by acting deputy general-secretary, Dr Ademola Olajire.
