Fast-rising grassroots football coach, Benjamin Amadi is taking profound delight in the emergence of his captain, Ebere Ezekwe as the team’s penalty kick specialist, Sports247 reports.
Coach Ben disclosed this after Ezekwe hit target from the spot in his team’s first match of the maiden Coach Osahon Emokpae Memorial Football Carnival at Federal Housing Authority (FHA) Stadium in FESTAC Town, Lagos.
Although his team, Intercontinental FC of Navy Town, later lost their next game to Young Stars FC of Satellite Town, the club of late Coach Osahon, Amadi continued relishing how Ezekwe’s penalty helped him beat Santana Boys FC of Ajangbadi 1-0 in their first match.
Ezekwe, who became captain of Amadi’s club in 2024, told Sports247 afterwards that he was so sure of scoring the penalty, as he cannot remember when last he missed from the spot, even at his former team, Topaz FC of Kirikiri.
The right-full-back revealed, “I am happy that God has given me the gift of scoring penalties. I am also happy that I always make Coach Amadi happy anytime the team gets a penalty.
“Thanks too to Coach Dominic, who took me to the club, and to all my teammates for the confidence they have in me. I am grateful to God that I don’t let them down any time we have a penalty.
“Although we could not win this Coach Osahon Memorial Cup at FHA, we previously carried Boma Cup, and we also did well in some other grassroots competitions. I believe we will still win something before this year ends.”
