The president of Nigerian Grassroots Sport Development Forum (NGSDF), Godwin Bamigboye has charged the country’s decision makers in football to give better attention to preparations for the forthcoming FIFA U-15 World Cup.
Sports247 reports that, with the cadet championship and festival scheduled to hold in Azerbaijan from the 24th to 30th of next month, Bamigboye is worried that Nigeria has not set preparations in motion; and warned that such levity could adversely affect the country’s team.
Bamigboye went on to urge top shots at Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and National Sports Commission (NSC) to immediately commence full fledged action, in order to ensure the country’s team, Baby Eagles, get a good outing in the championship.
Having earlier published information about the competittion in his ‘Spectator’ column, Bamigboye further lamented that no visible action has been taken ahead of the global event, where Nigeria will feature in Group AD, then urged the NSC to include it in their ongoing reforms.
Bamigboye inquired, “Why are we very light at the foundation or grassroots level? How can we be so negligent in our support to the younger generation? Why? This global event kicks off on October 24.
“I expect that, by now, the players should be in camp with the technical crew, all working towards participation, so as to expose these young ones to opportunities for future realities.
“As part of the reforms we envisage in football, we can start building the other cadres of our national teams from this level. I plead that this request should not be taken for granted, as our failure to give attention to the younger generation will surely attract negative consequences.”
Sports247 reports that Bamigboye also pleaded not to be misunderstood, saying he is only calling for more attention to football at the grassroots level, especially regarding the country’s build-up towards the forthcoming global kiddies’ football showpiece.
