Udibese of Italy goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye will return to his Serie A club after the ongoing three weeks’ international break to find Nigerian-born defender, David Olatokunbo Alaba present as one of his new teammates.
Sports247 reports that Okoye will meet Alaba as a new arrival at the Udine-based club following confirmation of a deal for the Austria international, who previously played for Bayern Munich of Germany and Real Madrid of Spain.
Alaba sealed a free agent move to Okoye’s club on Wednesday, despite earlier being linked with SV Hamburg of Germany, Inter Miami of USA and Al-Sadd of Saudi Arabia for the better part of this month.
Incidentally, up till last week, the biggest talking point had been about a likely return to Germany for Alaba, with a chance of joining Terem Moffi at Hamburg, but the Austria captain has instead opted for Udinese.
A report by Sky Sport Italia revealed, “David Alaba has completed his medical ahead of a surprise move to Udinese. The now 34-year-old has been a free agent since leaving Real Madrid at the end of last season.
“(During) five years with the Spanish giants, Alaba’s time at the Santiago Bernabeu was fraught with injuries, including a major ACL tear back in December 2023, leaving him sidelined for 399 days.
“Alaba is now expected to put pen to paper on a short-term deal with the Serie A club, who currently sit 13th after five games. He completed his medical with no issues flagged ahead of a shock move to Udinese.”
