Smart City FC continued their preparations for the 2026/27 Nigeria National League season with an impressive 1-0 victory over Ajuwa FA in a preseason friendly at the Legacy Pitch, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, on Thursday.
The Lagos side produced a disciplined performance to secure the victory as the technical crew continued to assess the squad and fine-tune preparations for the challenges ahead.
The result will provide another confidence boost for Smart City as the club intensifies its preseason programme with its sights firmly set on mounting a strong challenge when competitive action begins.
Under Technical Adviser Eddy Lord Dombraye, Smart City are working to develop a team capable of combining organisation, intensity and attacking football, with every preseason encounter providing an opportunity to test the progress being made on the training ground.
Thursday’s victory was particularly useful against a competitive Ajuwa side, with Smart City keeping a clean sheet while finding the decisive goal to seal the contest.
There will be little time for celebration, however, as attention immediately turns to another important preseason assignment.
Smart City will face New Hope Naija FC on Friday, September 18, at the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode, with kick-off scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
The encounter provides another opportunity for Dombraye to evaluate his players, test different combinations and continue building the fitness and tactical understanding required for the new campaign.
With the NNL season approaching, competition for places is expected to intensify as players look to convince the technical crew that they deserve a place in the team.
For Smart City, the objective of these preseason matches goes beyond results. It is about developing the mentality, cohesion and consistency required for a demanding campaign in which the club has set its sights on NPFL promotion.
After overcoming Ajuwa in Lagos, Smart City now head to Ijebu Ode looking to maintain their momentum against New Hope Naija FC.
